Thanks for the info on the rims any thoughts on tyres will probably do more road work than off road but want something that will be good in snow and potentially a bit of green laneing what are the kl71s like on the road?

I have a VVT model and seems to be going strong. I have had no problems with the engine. I do all my own servicing. The only high maintenance areas are the same as the earlier models, that being everything attached to the front axle. All fairly straight forward stuff though once you have been through it once. The how to guides on here are great. If you off road your vehicle often you will need to change the king pins and regrease the cv joints more regular than a non off road vehile. Diff oils and gearbox oils need regular changes but that is not a hard job. It is all worth it though. With the current snow your Jimny will bring a permanent grin to your face. Even standard they are fantastic in the snow. Hope this helps.

Cheers everyone for opinions and comments. All very useful.
Do all VVT engine Jimny's have ABS? If so, will bigger tyres muck up the ABS.
I do like the improved MPG that the VVT offers, plus it is a alot smoother and maybe a little quicker through the gears.
I was not sure sure about the push buton 4 wheel drive and selecting the low ratio. On the two models I have recently tried I did have problems engaging and disengaging 4 wheel drive.
Anyone know of a vvt soft top for sale. Don't seem too many around.
Cheers

Hi and welcome.
I think all vvc Jimnys have abs as it became the law at some point that all new cars have to have it and I believe that encapsulated these.
It would be a pain in the arse to remove and may become an mot issue too if your tester is clued up.
The push button 4wd and vvc are more to go wrong albeit not known to.
If you were a first time Jimny buyer for these reasons I would point you towards what you already own. So why change?

Cheers Kirkynut. It's the improved MPG that is attracting me to the VVT. There is nothing wrong with my 2002 JLX soft top, it's a great little car.
so it sounds as if the older models are the better option
I'm heading out Essex coast way this weekend, in search of the white stuff. Hertfordshire is a bit lacking at the moment.
Cheers
