The crimps in the block will have a barb possibly down the back
use a paper clip but first make it flat using a hammer then push it down from the front and pull steady on the wires

When I fitted a temp gauge to my last car I had to get the sensor end through a similar grommet. So I used a sealant nozzle and some WD40, it went in like a hot knife through butter.

That’s a great idea! Did you have to cut the grommet? I have fear of nicking one of the wires as I cut, guess I could pull it back a bit

I used one of the grommets that had the wiring loom under the ABS pump.
You can push it through from the engine bay but my grommet had a tape seal on the inside which wouldn't let the grommet stretch and the cable been pushed through. Once it was off it was easy to push the cable through .

I just punched through first with a small electricians screwdriver.
