Switching off passenger airbag? was created by hauxwell
Hi

I have a 2004 Jimny and am currently pregnant. I am concerned that I am really going to struggle to get a carseat/baby in the back as parking near my house often means limited ability to open the doors wide and I am too short to lift the carseat over the seat via the backdoor without actually climbing in.

I am aware that you can't actually switch off the passenger airbag via a key or whatever but is there a possibility to switch it off by removing the fuse etc? I am not at all technical so any explanations will need to be basic!

Thanks

A couple of quick and dirty ways of doing it, both of which will result in an Airbag warning light coming on all the time on the dashboard.

1. Pull "AIRBAG" fuse from the fuse panel under the dashboard. BOTH airbags and seat belt tensioners will no longer function. (number 12 in picture)

2. Disconnect passenger airbag connector behind glove box. Passenger airbag will no longer function but driver and seat belt pretensioners will work ok.(Plug B in picture)

Do I need to disconnect the battery before disconnecting passenger airbag connector behind glove box?

Just remember to connect it back up before the MOT - airbag warning light on is now a fail!

Sadly jimny-less but still got the bug!
