Jimny following camber of the road was created by paradox1001
Do Jimnys follow the camber of the road more than other cars do?

In the past 6 months I’ve had a wheel bearing replaced, the swivel pin bearings on both sides and the tracking checked and adjusted along with new discs and pads.

On a relatively flat road it’s ok but on cambered roads it pulls to the left more so than other vehicles I’ve owned
And I don’t recall it being like that before the work was done.

It doesent pull to the left or right under braking

Just as soon as there’s a bit of camber on the road I seem to be having to pull the steering down to the right to stop it veering left.

Any wheel spacers or offset wheels on your car?
Do you have any modifications done to the car?

Solid axle cars are a bit different to other cars.

I tried explaining how to check you toe-in yourself in another thread.
Not sure if i should try to explain that again but if you search for it you'll find it.

All my cars have done it to varying degrees, the ones with this new fangled "independent suspenshun" seem worse than the ones with proper axles, but my jimny is hardly affected, it doesn't veer into the gutter, but If I took both hands off the wheel to answer the phone, shave and eat a doughnut at the same time as I'm reading a book and typing on my laptop  it would wind up in the gutter before too long.

Make sure the tyre pressures are even, there isn't a seized damper, there isn't an overtight swivel bearing, (could be if someone "adjusted" them to reduce jimny wobble) and then try swapping the front tyres over.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

No modifications to the car at all

I did the front brakes myself and had no problems after that.
A local 4x4 specialist did the lhs wheel bearing and swivel bearings along with the lhs track rod end and wheel alignment
It seemed to be ok after that

It then went back to them a while later for an mot where the rhs swivel bearings were and advisory
So I got them to do the rhs swivel bearings

A few weeks after that it was pulling to the left badly and scrubbing out the outer edge of the front lhs tyre

I took it back to them and they said my tracking was out
I said they had tracked it when they did the work on the lhs so it shouldn’t be .they said
I must have knocked it(I hadent)
They charged me to track it again along with replacing the rhs track rod end as apparently it was seized on and had to be cut off.
When I questioned if that was the case how did they track it last time
They told me it only needed adjusting on one side last time
(At this point I’ve lost trust in them and I’m pretty sure I’m getting screwed)

I drove home after this and it was still the same pulling badly to the left
I also noticed the right hand side swivel seal had flipped over on itself.

I went back to the garage and voiced my frustrations and got the owner to come out for a drive with me and drive it himself

He said that it was the scrubbed out tyre that was causing my problems but he would take it back in and replace the flipped swivel seal.

It went back into them
They replaced the flipped swivel seal, put the scrubbed out tyre on the rear and checked the tracking.

They said it was perfectly fine now and the other mechanics had drove it and said there’s no problem.

It was better but still not right and I didnt want to go back there
After a few days of driving I noticed it was starting to scrub out the tyre that had been moved from the rear to the front lhs
So I took it to quick fit who put it on there all singing computerised alignment machine
The tracking was loads out so I had to pay for them to adjust it.

It drove better after that and was a lot less skittish and more stable

A week of driving it and even though better it still didn’t feel right so I swapped out the scrubbed tyre that was put on the rear for a new tyre
Slight improvement I thought afterwards but it still doesn’t fell right.

I’m all out of ideas now and have spent a fortune only to be left with a car that I’m sure has something wrong.

As the swivel bearings were done on separate occasions I did wonder if that’s where the problem could be.
How do I check for an over tight bearing and if needed adjust them?
