Hi,

I may need to take out my rad, how easy is it to remove? Is it straight forward or is there a lot of other stuff that needs to come out first? Car is a 2007 manual with aircon.

It is a straight forward and fairly easy job. the only hassle is the liquid and the fan shroud, I cannot remember meeting any obstacles.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

that sounds easy enough. I did thought I read somewhere that you have to do something with the aircon rad to allow enough space to lift the main rad out?

So just drain down the rad, undo the obvious fixings/hoses & it should lift/jiggle out leaving the fan shroud & aircon rad in the car?

I've replaced the radiators on both my current Jimnys, but neither has air-con, so I can't offer any assistance :(

But as Yakuza says, it's dead easy on a non-air-con model?

simple, we even took off my radiator when off-road to make replacing the Fan Belt easy!!

It's dead easy with aircon, the aircon rad is mounted on the same bracket, but on different mounts so no need to remove air con or fan

What about the shroud? I have always found it to be a pain and frankly leave it off or cut it down to just give a top section and I can say it made no difference to the cooling

I never touched the aircon so it is no issue as ar as i remember.

Think i either unscrewed the fan and took it out with the radiator and shroud, or left shroud in there together with the fan. I cannot remember having any
problems.
I did not have to cut anything. But i have seen others do it.
Dunno why.

When my radiator was out, i made sure i had the belts ready and changed them when access was easy.

Thanks all, it doesn't sound like a pain. I had a brief look today & it seems the engine rad can be released from the aircon exchanger & the shroud & lifted out. We'll see... :whistle:

Just removed mine today,
Drain fluid
Unbolt fan cowling 3 Bottom 2 top, remove bolts completely or they will fowl the fan when you lift it out
Remove top hose
Remove bottom hose
Unbolt rad, 2 10mm bolts at top sides of rad
Move cowl as far forward to engine as pos
Lift rad out, hand spin the fan as you lift to allow the bottom outlet space you'll see.

Takes longer to drain than remove

Helijohn, the shroud massively increases the efficiency of the fan. It might be fine without the shroud for normal pootling about but if you work it hard on a hot day there's a much higher chance it will overheat.
