Yes, they have a pressure monitoring system. I already have the cluster out (i'm installing a speedo corrector) and it seems that you need to split it and access the bulbs from the front.

black tape or sticker of some description over the top of the bulb?

Yes, that is exactly what I just did! Great minds think alike
The 2015 model has diodes in the console, not bulbs. The Suzuki dealer over here told me that this console was not repair-able.

No doubt make it like that now so you have to get it fix or replaced at a dealers.
