Engine management light

Hi,

Hope someone can give me some ideas, after sitting around over Xmas I took my jimny for its MOT, on the way there the yellow engine management light or MIL came on out of the blue.

The car passed the MOT only needing a corroded brake pipe replaced, and the guy at the garage suggested the light may clear itself. So far it hasn't, the car seems to be running as normal and I have been reading various posts on here about fault codes, o2 sensors of which there are apparently 2.

I can't use the idea of bridging the connector behind the glovebox as I have an immobiliser fit, but as the engine is running ok does this mean it has gone into closed loop and is using the stored fuel air mix setting it had already?

I saw rhinoman suggest in another post about some sort of vacuum in the braking system.
I guess I need the OBD2 code from the system to be sure, but is it just the time of year for this sort of thing...lol

It's a great little car and the engine is strong, having just completed a top gear challenge from the Highlands to Normandy and back before Crimbo.

All advice greatfully received.....

Cheers for the response, I read in Suisse thread that there are some cheap readers out there?
Mines an 04 plate with M13a engine, is it the OBD2 code reader I need?

I think that's the twin cam isn't it? I can never remember for sure! If it's a hard top it is. If so, yes you need an obd2 reader.

Finally got my fault code reader, can anyone confirm that this is an o2 sensor fault?
Not sure which it is referring to, guessing it is the forward sensor in the manifold?
Is it best to clear the fault first to see if it reoccurs, or just change the sensor if that's what it is....?

Code reads: P0130 O2 sensor circuit, bank 1 sensor 1

Had this the other day, it's the oxygen sensor at the manifold. Replaced the sensor and warning gone.

Just ordered one off the net, did you have any issues getting the old one out, or was it pretty straight forward..?

Fairly straightforward, l didn't have a correct socket - a 22mm with a cut out for the wire. So l removed the manifold silver cover and also took the little bracket off the rear of the head which is a 10mm bolt that both sensors connect to the loom on, made the access a lot easier.
Then back together again, no problems since and whole job took about 1/2 hr.
