Power Steering Leak

Hello Everyone,
I got to use the wife 2005 Jimmy yesterday and thought the steering was heavy. Investigation found the power steering reservoir nearly empty. Further investigation found a leak at a hose union (see photos)
Is this an easy fix for the "home mechanic" without a workshop manual?

The one with all the fluid on it is the low pressure return to the tank.

It might just be that it has come loose, and you simply tighten up the nut part, but the most likely reason is that the pipe has cracked, and you need a new one. These are available from Suzuki.

The one with the banjo that is the upper hose in your picture is the high pressure hose from the pump, and is much more likely to leak tbh, they generally crack and split just as they go into the banjo, and squirt the oil out in a little jet, which may be the source. This time you need the whole pipe assembly (and they are about £1,000,000). I have fixed them before by warming up the banjo, knocking it off, sawing the pipe short and brazing the banjo back on, they last long enough to sell the car anyway..

Clean the oil off, start it up and see where the leak actually is from.

Mine went in the same place - pipe rusted right through, looked a lot worse than yours mind. Awkward to get at, chap I took it to said he had to buy a 'crows foot' to go on a socket extension bar to reach it...

I managed to loosen the leaky joint (low pressure return) but could not remove it. It was really difficult to get at. Tightened it up and topped up the fluid but now there is a fine jet of fluid shooting out when the engine is turned on. Looked at the manual (which I found on the net) and it appears I have to virtually dismantle the front of the car to get at the problem.
I thought it might be a simple fix but alas it isn't looking like that now.

If you can beg/borrow/buy a specialist type of ring spanner designed specifically for pipe unions that fits when you have good access that will enable you to get more torque on the union which might just do the trick. You could adapt a ring spanner by cutting out a segment from the head just big enough to clear the pipe diameter if you do not want to buy one but ensure it is the right size.
