Rev Limit was created by Stuttgart
I have recently swapped my Spanish built jimny to a 97 vitara 1.6 engine, after doing this i could only rev to 5000RPM, before with my 1.3 it would rev to 7500RPM, when it reaches 5000 it sounds like a misfire, but that may be heavy exhaust blow, after refitting a head and camshaft the other day, occasionly she wont rev past 3000, i thought this was happening when the engine was hot but it did it this morning when cold. Also when this happens the immobiliser light flashes a bit.
All advice is much appreciated

did you use the 1.3 litre camshaft ?

i did use the 1.3 camshaft, as far as i am aware the 1.6 and 1.3 cams have identical profiles, i didnt use the 1.6 injectors to start with as they didn't fit, but now i have modified the rail and am running them but the problem still occurs

from what i understand the 1.6 cam has a longer duration for opening the valves due to the longer stroke, but it should still rev pretty well just not as gutsy.
what injectors did you use ? the type that are most successful are the green injectors found in suzuki balenos which also have the 1.6 & look identical to those of the jimny except for the colour. from all the reading i did prior to swapping to the 1.6 no other injectors will give satisfactory performance, especially those that have the fatter body & i think some metal in the body as well.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
If the immobiliser light is flashing then its an electrical problem. usually its a cam or crank sensor but it could be a loose connection that is vibrating at higher RPM.

thank you, i do have the fatter metal ones and it felt no different to the 1.3 ones, could it possibly be cutting at 5000 because its too lean ? and will hook up a scanning tool
