Is it generally the case that the mounting hole part of an alloy wheel is thicker than on a steel rim? ie do you get more stud protruding through on a steely?

There are different wheel studs to compensate for this.

I bought a set of High Tensile studs from my local dealer for about £2 each. I told the dealer they were for larger offset alloy wheels and they were fine.
Dont be tempted to go for cheaper ones for trailers .. you donot want to sheer a wheel stud half way up a green lane !!!..
