hi lads , my current 1.3 jimny 4x4 has for the very first time got a problem apart from service items and mot stuff she has never let me down it has 178,000 miles on the clock , lived a life of abuse and is 14 years young , and still shouting for more abuse lol what can you say about theses motors , my jimney has seen out two all singing dancin brand new work vans and when they have broke down she stood in and done the work lol

ok her head gasket has gone for sure , i have a cd disc for it but windows 7 cant open it for some reason , i have scanned the net on how to remove the head and can find nothing they must be dam good !! i am capable of doing the job and have the tools but it would be nice to have a to do list or not to do list she is a 52 plate with timing chain !! not a belt any pointers would be great thanx in advance ,

It looks a Big Job to me, the timing cover holds the head on, so you pretty much strip the engine down to a bare block.

Your CD should just have pdf files on it, the one you want is 99500_81A10_01E_1.pdf it should just open with acrobat reader, or some such (but windows 7 is a bit odd in what it permits to happen, maybe you need copy it off the cd to somewhere else.)

Otherwise there is a thread about manuals in the stickies

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Remember to have the correct tools for the job. Mainly, to have a 10 mm 12 point socket for the 10 stretch bolts. You may need to use a hammer to get the sockets to fit on the bolts. It's a tight fit.

Also a good quality torque wrench.

cheers for that tom i have a good selection of tools and think i have the ones for the head bolts hammers i have plenty lol i have removed a few heads in my day but they all have their little differences , hence i asked for a bit of help due to the fact i have not been able to access the cd manual , i will just glory on at the start of the week when i have located a head set ,
