Converting Vacuum hubs to fixed hubs

nice write up for a permanent fix. similar results can be achieved by just repositioning the sliding collar with your finger to the locked position and blanking the vac pipes as you describe above. i have done this but i suppose there is always a chance the hubs can disengage by rattling free though i have not known it to happen. your method is not risking the hub disengaging so anyone doing this will have more peace of mind. hope your recovery is full and good. rob

There's a magnet in the outer casing that stops the geared part engaging on it's own, which could create a mess at speed. If it did rattle towards its unlocked position without a spacer, that magnet might help it all the way out.

The magnet is reasonably strong too, which makes me amazed at the vacuum system's ability to overcome it when it does work but makes me thing no wonder they fail with only a little leak as they must need all the vacuum they are given.

Your wish is my command!

I had been hesitant to make it a Sticky until someone had tried and tested it but I suppose from your experience of them without a spacer Robs5230, that has been done.

I have a fear that the idea of using a bolt as a spacer might introduce vibration to the drive line and a clanging noise from it being metal free to move slightly in a metal casing and its weight where it's never going to be centralised. So I'd use an old rubber or poly bush of similar.
