Vacuum Hoses was created by The Dug
Hi folks,

The dreaded flashing 4X4 light struck me in June but I've just got round to investigating.

Found that both hoses on the drivers side hub have sheared / corroded.

All the hoses are badly corroded so I plan to replace the whole lot but have a couple of questions for the Big Jimny experts.

I have access to 6mm stainless tubing and swaged connectors but think to use this would be too problematic so, the alternative is to use silicone hoses but can anyone tell me the correct size to order? Also I know there's loads of tubing on eBay but is there a more reputable/reliable supplier of hose and connectors?

Thanks folks

Scrap the vac hubs and fit manual! Then all you need to do is blank off the hose to stop the light flashing.

Thanks supergaz, I was expecting that responce to be honest but until there's an idiots guide for the change out this seems like the easiest option to get me through this winter.

After that I'll probably look at the manual hub change out.

You can get manual hubs from jimnybits.co.uk that will bolt straight on without any spacers, the unbranded new ones are even quite reasonably priced compared to a used set from a SJ/Vitara and the adaptor ring.

Also there is a guide on this very site to fitting the manual hubs.

The pipes (Soft and Hard) on my jimny were knackered aswell when I got it, so got some 4mm silicone hose and t pieces on order hopefully to sort at the weekend. The previous owner or a garage had at some point fixed the hubs in engaged mode so I took them off at the weekend to de-engage them, took about max 10mins to take off and refit, but you do need a special socket (Torx E10) to take the old ones off, cost £3.99 from Halfords.

Thanks for the link to the guide.

I hadn't realised how straightforward a change out that would be, however, it might take some convincing for my wife to accept getting out to engage 4x4. I had an image of all sorts of levers etc connected to the selector in the cab.

With that in mind, and given that I don't really off road in the jimny (it's a winter car as my main brief is RWD) I think I might persevere with fitting new hoses so any advice on this would be gratefully accepted.
