4WD High and Low was created by cool-wool
Hi, I've just become the owner of a 2008 Jimny and am a bit in a pickle with the 4WD.
I seem to get into 4WD-H without problems pushing the 4WD button and getting the green light on the dash. The problem I'm having is with the LOW gears. When I push the 4WD-L button I get a beeping sound and a flashing 4L indicate on the dash which then goes out. Car does not enter LOW range though.

I know that the low range gears work because, for some strange reason, the other day I collected the car from a car wash and both the green 4WD and orange 4L lights were on and the LOW gears WHERE engaged (noticable in driving).
I even had trouble disengaging the 4WD !! In fact pressing either 4WD button only resulted in beeping sounds.
Eventually got back to 2WD (I think) doing some reversing.

Any ideas ?
thanks

Dodgy wiring to the transfer box maybe? Get underneath and have a look to see if there are any broken wires etc.

4WDL can only be selected after 4WDH is engaged. High can be selected on the move at low speeds.
You must use the clutch(try fully down) and be at a standstill to select low. Hope that helps?? :)
Sounds like someone at the car wash has been playing?? Proves it works though lol
Apologies if you know this already but do not drive in 4WD on wet or dry tarmac. Only slippery surfaces!

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

I don't have a 4L light on my dashboard, only a 4WD.

Maybe cos it's an 05 O2 with the manual lever.

Or, has a bulb gone? No mention of a 4L light in the Owners book tho'.
