Hey guys, hope you can help.
Out today trying out my recent lift and tyres. It's a 2001 Jimny DOHC engine so I guess that's the M13A engine?

I was climbing a slight incline traveling over typical bumpy forest track in 2WD 2nd when my warning lights (left lower display) started to flash rapidly, the engine started to splutter then died.
I waited a short while and it fired up again, running seemingly fine, "strange" I think. Soon after I stopped and looked at electrical connections. Pulled a few apart and sprayed with WD40.
I then found another track and decided to try that out. I must have been on the track for 40 mins or so and all seemed ok. I decided to leave the track to see if I could find a good future camping spot on the mountain. I was in 4WD L 1st gear then when the incline reduce I changed to 4WD L 2nd, after a min or two the same happened again, flickering warning lights, splutter then died. It would not start for a while, about 5 mins, then it fired up ok. No problem for the 30 min journey home.

I feel it's an intermittent electrical fault.
Hoping someone has suffered the same and knows what to look for, or an electrics man could narrow it down and point me in the right direction.

This is the first time since I've had it that this has happened, I bought it from my old Dad about two weeks ago and he never had this problem. It's never been subjected to this sort of vibration before now though.

Could be the cam/crank sensors? They are prone to failure which coincides with you driving slowly (engine running hotter). Can cause conking out and engine management light to come on.

Run the engine up to temp, pour water on each one separately and see if that solves it...

Hi Beano, thanks for your reply/help. I just googled cam and crank sensors Jimny and hit on a Big Jimny discussion regarding those sensors.
The guy described exactly the same probs I'm having, flickering warning lights etc, plus I did note the temp was a fraction higher than norm, so it seems you put your finger on it my friend.
No messing about I've just ordered both Cam and crank sensors.

I'll swap those out and report back with the results.

Thanks again!
