Electrical system was created by Beano
Hi folks,

When my engine is up to temp and I have the fan on (not necessarily full blast) and I pop the headlights on and press the brake my idle will shoot down to almost 100rpm.

This usually occurs at night when I have the heater, headlights etc on. Makes for an interesting drive because as I approach traffic lights or a roundabout for example, as I'm braking and dip the clutch to stop, the revs almost die completely. It rectifies itself and brings up the revs as soon as I let off the brake pedal.

I have got myself a charging system/battery tester but it all seems to read ok??

Any ideas?

Tar,
Al

I have the same issue with my 2002 jimny, when you have high drain on the electrical system it ticks over very low almost at stalling point! when you initally turn your headlights on are they really dim untill the alternator kicks in?i thought it was just down to a rubbish/dying battery (looks like it should belong on a motor bike from the size of it lol) did you get any further with finding the source of the problem? why would it be damage to the tail light wiring?

The tail lighting reference is to the fact that the tail lighting passes through the metal bodywork on a rubbish grommet which fails allowing the wiring to contact the bodywork

would this cause that level of drain on the system? i couldnt say its specifically when i brake just seems to be low on electricity so to speak. when i initially start it with the lights on they are really dim (everything, dash lights etc) untill the alternator kicks in.

i still cant seem to update my profile on here either comes up with an error message.

Dont start it with the lights on then give the alternator chance to kick in

Also the more eletric us use the harder the alternator works so your putting more load on the engine

Bet your could also have an idle contol valve problem

You need to get the alternator tested with the heater on speed 2 lights on heated rear screen on and it should charge around 14v
