4WD-L not working? was created by Jimny Al
I bought a 2006 jimny, m13a, a few weeks ago   ... I've been working on it on my own, to fix some minor things.
There is one thing, though, I haven't been able to figure out:
When I already have the 4WD working(and the green light is on), I stop the car, and push the 4WD-L button, but the corresponding orange light (4L) blinks and beeps three times, after that it stays off.
Its the first time I've ever owned, or even used, a Jimny, but I did learn to drive in very bad roads, using 4wd-h and 4wd-L, and I've owned 4wd pickups(toyota land cruiser, hilux and nissan frontier).
The thing is that I feel absolutely no difference between 4WD and 4WD-L.... any ideas on what might be wrong?
I really don't want to take my jimny to a mechanic, because jimnys are not that common in the city where I live in. Which means they are just going to be guessing, and I'm afraid I wont get the problem solved
can anybody help me on this please?!

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Do you have the owners handbook?
I think that there is a peculiar sequence to follow with these to get low range.
Try selecting 4wdh then with the clutch pressed down try 4wd low.
I don't think that it will go in when it is moving, maybe it has to be in neutral and no foot on clutch?
I think that Martin has a diagnostic chart for one of these if you are still stuck.

thanks!!
you're absolutely right... it is the type with the buttons, and not the stick.
but it does make a little noise when I push the 4wd button... nothing too loud.
I think its normal, because first I can hear a wind-like noise and then a metal clunk(again... nothing too loud); I assume its the vacuum system and then the hubs. Its all very quick.... maybe a second or something like that.
..... it makes no sound when I push the 4wd-l button

thanks facade!!
I WISH had the owners handbook!!!... I've been looking for it on the web with no luck
The driver's sun-blocking-thing has a note about it....
its says that in order to activate the 4wd-l, the car has to be completely stopped, but it says nothing about the clutch.... so I've never pressed it; in other words... I've always tried to do it with the gear stick in neutral.
you think I should give it a try?
I would really appreciate the diagnostic chart!!!

YEAHHH!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!
4WD-L is working!!!!
in order to make it work, the jimny has to be completely stopped and the gear stick(transmission) has to be in neutral(as we mentioned before), but the trick is that the clutch pedal ALSO needs to be pressed, at the SAME TIME the 4WD-L button is pushed.
I'll take some pictures of my jimny and upload them!!!
Thank you!!!
