Budget steering damper bracket was created by Dougall
Hello all,
I've just bought the budget steering damper bracket and an armstrong damper, but the problem I'm having is opening up the hole in the tie-down bracket. It looks like it needs to be 15-16mm, but the largest drill bit I've got is 10mm. Looking in the local shops a 15/16mm HSS drill bit is around £15! I don't really want to fork out that for what will probably one use, so is there a chassis bracket available anywhere? I've seen the offroad armoury brackets but its another £40 so I'd have been better off buying the full damper kit in the first place I reccon!

If you're in East Sussex then the Offroad Armoury will take £20 for just the bracket or £25 posted. I picked mine up and have to say well worth it as really good quality, mega strong and well engineered.

I've ordered one from Offroad Armoury in the end. Hopefully it'll be waiting for me when I get home tonight.

Just fitted the damper - I'll say it right now that I'm impressed with the difference.
Just to reiterate Martins notes on the bracket page - this will NOT cure the famous steering wobble (mine has been showing slight signs for a few months and they're still present after fitting) but it's well worth fitting even to a standard Jimny. Bump steer is greatly reduced through potholes/bumps at speed and the confidence in the steering at highway speeds is hugely improved.
In my opinion buy the chassis bracket from Offroad Armoury - it keeps the damper almost horizontal with the steering bars instead of at a sharp angle if using the hole through the tie down hook. I bought the steering rod bracket from Martin and the chassis bracket from Offroad Armoury, then a £12 Discovery Series 1 damper from ebay.
Well worth the money and the 20 minutes to fit it all.
