Clarion Radio code. Mk2 Jimny was created by pgatensuk
Need a bit of help here chaps in regard to the security radio code.
The lack of clock on my 2005 VVT Jimny is driving me mad and I have tried a couple of after market clocks which have been rubbish. So now looking at changing my head unit to the later one with the "Disp" button in top right, which I believe is the head unit with the built in clock.
From a bit of research on here and other places on the web I have found out that by default. The two versions of Clarion head units fitted to Mk2 Jimny (one with "Disp" button has clock and the unit without "Disp" button without clock) have the same security code arrangement.
By default no code is set when new.
A code can be set by the user.
If you are buying a second-hand unit and are not given the code, you could be in trouble if the previous owner has set the code.
Does anyone know how to clear the code if a code has been set? Looking to buying a secondhand unit head unit, I have no way of telling if a code has been set.
I have just set a code on my unit as I was not aware if a previous code had been set and in setting a code I have discovered that now when I turn on the unit, it displays 'Code OK' on startup which tells me that previously no code was set.
How to set the Clarion CD Radio security code
Turn the set off with the power on/off knob.
Hold down the seek/track "UP" button and put power back on with the on/off knob.
This should cause the display to show "ENTRY" "0000".
Using the station change buttons 1-6, enter the code
The display will then return to "ENTRY" "0000", at this point enter the code a second time and you should get "CODE OK".
Up to 6 incorrect entries will lock the set for 15 secs. After 7 incorrect it locks for 15 mins.
All the above took a little time to sus out as I don't have the manual for the radio.
You might want to go and check to see if your radio comes up with "Code OK" and then check to see if you have a code written down. If you don't I would suggest setting a code by following the above routine.
While on the subject of the Jimny Mk2 radio, I did look to change the head unit, but found the whole central part of the dashboard needs to be changed at a cost £100!! Gave up on that one.
Hopefully this thread will help others out.
Cheers

Just to add...
If, having set a code I now go through the security code set routine...
Turn the set off with the power on/off knob.
Hold down the seek/track "UP" button and put power back on with the on/off knob.
This should cause the display to show "DELETE" "0000".
If I then enter the code I originally set, the security code is removed.
So now when I turn on the unit, it just goes to to the radio or CD as normal without display "Code OK"
This may well be obvious to anyone that has a manual, but has taken me a while to discover.
So, the question outstanding is how do you clear a code on a unit that has been purchased secondhand?
Cheers

Hi Paul,
I have the same issue as yourself in that my 2005 VVT jimny has a Clarion Radio/CD that doesn't display the clock time. It doesn't have the "DISP" button as you mention in your post.
My question refers to your statement "While on the subject of the Jimny Mk2 radio, I did look to change the head unit, but found the whole central part of the dashboard needs to be changed at a cost £100!! Gave up on that one."
If I was to obtain a unit with the DISP button, (so it displays the clock time) will it just slot in as a like for like replacement? Your post implies it won't as "he whole central part of the dashboard needs to be changed at a cost £100!! "
Would you be able to advise?
Many thanks,
David

You don't need to change the dash. I fitted a Sony WX-900BT with no issues. Then just bought a surround of eBay to fill the slight gap in. Still have the standard radio but wanted something more modern and with Bluetooth and hands free and that's on a 2006 VVT model
If in doubt ...... Flat out ??

Hi Skywalker, do you still have the original Suzuki Radio/CD unit and does it have a "DISP" button in the top right hand side which should mean it will display the time by default? If you still have it would you be willing to sell it assuming it is in excellent condition? Does it have a security code set?
What year Jimny is it from?
Cheers,
David
