I know this isnt strictly Jimny related but I thought some of you may have experience of changing these.
Am I correct in thinking that apart from the vacuum system the SJ and Jimny kingpins are very similar to do.
Can I basically follow the how to guide for the Jimny?

Yes you can with one main difference. SJ ones HAVE to be shimmed, so you go through a shimming process during re-assembly.

Thanks Martin I thought that was the case, I understand the best way of shimming is by use of a spring balance or is there an easier way.
Apart from the obvious point of vacuum valve reliability are the SJ hubs better or worse than the Jimny items ie in terms of prevention of water ingress ec.

The textbook way is to use a spring balance, but on the times I have done it on my SJ and Jimny , I found that "feel" was the best way. Turn the hub by hand and it will feel too loose, too tight or just right (its the 3 Bears method!!)

And SJ hubs are just as rubbish as Jimny hubs at keeping water out
