Belt adjuster was created by Gromit
Is the steering pump belt adjuster/pulley supposed to be spring loaded as mine isn't.
So how do I get enough tension in the belt whilst tightening the 12 mm adjuster nut, is it just a matter of pressing down hard on the pulley whilst tightening the nut ?

There is a hex hole in the pulley. Pop an ashen key in to apply tension. Its a sort of can adjuster tensioner. This is assuming you have the m13a engine

Yep mine is twin cam.
I have done it but note that the belt 4PK850 in the books at the auto factors is wrong and too short !. The correct belt is 4PK890 (48356), and the allen key to tension the pulley a 10mm.
I found that the best thing to do is get the pulley pinch nut
reasonably tightish then use a long 10mm allen key to set the tension and then nip up the pinch nut and the other nut .
