‘Malfunction Indicator Light’ was created by Tadpole
Today I had an interior valet on my ‘new to me’ 2003 Jimny.
Now just by coincidence when I picked it up the ‘Malfunction Indicator Light’ came on & stayed on.
I have looked through the forum & found a couple of threads relating to this here.

I intend to disconnect/re-connect the battery in the morning to clear the fault (I hope)
But I wonder, is it possible a strong ‘cleaner/solvent’ used to remove a bad oil stained carpet could set the fault?
Any ideas or advice welcome, thanks guys ...

As an update, this morning I disconnected/re-connect the battery which cleared the fault.
I then spent a couple of hours doing a few things to make this one mine.
The motor started without any reoccurrence of the fault light appearing even with multiple starts.
I’ll keep an eye on things as with only 36k on the clock I am hoping it was a one of

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If you have the twin cam engine, and intend keeping it, worth spending £20 on an OBD2 diagnostic reader from eBay, pays for itself the first time you use it.
Read any stored codes, and clear them to put the EML out.
(The reader will work in anything newer that you get in the future anyway)

I do indeed have the twin cam engine.
Thanks for the advice & for that sort of money it sounds a good deal.
I have looked on the dbay however they all list as doing the same thing, some being manufacture linked.
Would it be possible to highlight a couple for consideration & I’ll make the purchase.

I took my own advice, and ordered one of the £19.95 ones (+p&p:- b****r!)
