weight on backdoor was created by Knifeman
for the desert trip I will need to get a 800km = 500 miles autonomy with the Jimny... the idea is to take 2x20 liters jerrycans with me. Putting them on the roof is not an option as in the sandunes this puts too much weight to high... now the idea was to remove the spare tire from the backdoor and make an 2 can holder instead... now I'm wondering if this is an acceptable idea and if the backdoor would hold the occasional 40 kilo's instead of the average 20 kilo's of the tire...

what's your opinion... somebody is running with 30ers 31ers fedima's of something on their back door?

Hi,

I think it would damage the door, too much weight plus the jimny getting bumped about, The door is too light weight.

I used to have the 31 in spare wheel on the back door, but have a steel bumper, so made a swing out mount for it now.

Have a look here at Greg's site, www.sj410.co.uk , he has a Jimny now and has done some long trips.

I also think the weight will be too much. Perhaps you could fit a tow bar and then fabricate a removeable carrier for the fuel to fit on the bumper. You could possible adapt one of those cycle carriers that fit onto towbars
