jimny cutting out and missing

Hi guys just returned from a 1200 miles exploration of the lake district and northen england ,and on the return journey the jimny(2001,m13a engine ,manual) started to lose power and the rev counter needle started to jump about ,engine management light came on and it would miss like mad
as soon as i pulled over and stopped the engine it would restart and run as good as new ,this only happened when over 3000 revs ,am i right in thinking this is a crank sensor problem??? any help would be very grateful

look out for pics of the jimny in the lakes etc in the general area(if your intrested of course :silly: )

Crankshaft sensor. Cool it with water next time it does it to check for sure.. Its at the back of the alternator

cheers j999 thats what i thought it was just wanted someone else to second me on it ,il just change it and that should cure its probs

Sounds more like the CAM sensor, when the crank sensor fails the car usually stops stight away and cuts out, may restart when cooled down yes.

CAM sensor fault will cough,splutter,missfire etc.

Id be looking at that first.

Try the cooling down trick on both sensors one st a time to highlight which one it is and let its know. I know someone with a cam sensor for sale I think. But its probably worth getting new prices as well. Fitting is easy.
