i have a 98 single cam 16v with about 100 000 miles on the clock
and it has no power pulling away and keeps stalling all the time
i have taken off the throtle body and cleaned it with carb cleaner
but this does not seam to have done any thing i think it must be
the i c v but i dont know wot it looks like how much a new one is
or if i can just clean it can any one shed any light on this thanks paul

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Check the obvious first:
try pushing it, or jack up each wheel in turn and make sure that they go around easily.
Check that the air cleaner isn't blocked solid.
Make sure that the throttle pedal opens the butterfly in the intake.
See if it has 4 compressions.
Then look to see if the exhaust, specifically the catalyst, is blocked, some people suggest disconnecting the downpipe for a quick test.
Then test the fuel pressure, you are looking for low pressure at the injectors, like below 40psi.
A CV joint has no effect in 2wd, so it isn't that.

hi it rolls ok and it drives ok its just when you pull away it stalls unless you rev it and even wors when you reverse i have jacked it up and checked if brakes were binding and all was ok

when you say braking down do you mean looks ok but it not doing
a chemical reaction or crumbeld away or melted (will it be somthing i can see )
