Help - Scraping noise was created by Trillian
I've got this horrible scraping noise coming from the rear of my Jimny. At first I thought it was coming from the NSR wheel and the noise sounds like its going round at the speed of the wheel, when I accelerate it becomes faster. It's like stone or metal against metal sort of noise. It's only intermittant too, sometimes I don't hear the noise at all and sometimes it's present and then dissapears.
I've taken it back to the Garage to have a look at but they couldn't find a problem and did not hear the noise when they tested it - typical!
Anyone know what it could be? Or even what I can do to troubleshoot?

I'd start with the brakes, then check bearings. Have a friend listen as you drive past, you said it only happens with you and not the shop, so the weight might be just so so to make it scrape. Ive heard of people duct taping a video camera to the bumper. There's not much under there to scrap! Good luck!

I Had a scraping noise coming from The f/o/s wheel it only occurred when I was going round a corner and if I mounted a kerb.
It turned out to be a bolt head that held the mudflaps on. There was a spacer between the body and the mudflap. Cut this in half and fitted one half to each side. I was running part worn Sahara,s.
Are you running large A/T or mud tyres?.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

Bearing is an easy diagnosis, there's the obvious good tug on the wheel or when you're driving ease the handbrake up, if it stops or eases it could be the bearing.
As its intermittent i'd suspect worn shoes or other brake related issue. It could be that they're too worn for them to return fully.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Have a look for a stone caught between the brake disc and the dust-shield at the front :woohoo:
Sometimes noises seem to come from the wrong place .

I had the other half listen and it appears to be coming from the nsf wheel
