According to the handbook Jimnys shouldn't be towed any distance on the rear wheels (don't know why)

if you buy a trailer make sure it can take the weight of the jimny - especially if you plan to add heavy metal bits - bumpers cages etc - ifor williams do a shortish HD car transporter a CT136HD but theyre not cheap unless you can get a second hand one
if you rent a trailer they go for £40-£55 a day plus a deposit

we rent one when needed (usually big jimny events) as we dont have space to store one unfortunately
we've towed the jimny on a plant trailer and on a low profile car transporter and the lower trailer definately feels more stable through the corners and affects mpg less
behind a 2litre diesel A3 we got about 25mpg with the plant trailer and 28-29mpg with the car transporter

There was a big discussion about towing with the propshaft on and the rear wheels on the floor.

The conclusion was in neutral, with the engine off the gearbox gears all stay still, so there is nothing to fling oil around the gearbox, and the mainshaft bearings will fail from lack of lubrication.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

hiring a trailer can work out expensive over a year if renting once a month at £40 a day comes to £480 & if you need 1 for a full weekend will work out more

if you can find the space to keep 1 you be better off buying 1 as you can get a good trailer for £1000 to £1500 & when the time comes that you no longer need the trailer you will be able to get most if not all your money back

you can get trailers even cheaper if your not fussy & wanting something like a ifor williams

the place we rent off we pick the trailer up on Saturday at about 4.30 and drop it back late Sunday and only pay for the one day

would love a trailer if we had the space to store one and agree if you buy a good one second hand you can get most of your money back when you come to sell
