Fitting Manual Hubs was created by shooter1122
Just fitting, or trying to fit, manual SJ hubs to my Jimny.
Following the comprehensive instructions all went well and have one side on. But then thought about seeing if they work so jacked the car up and put them into lock. I was hoping that the wheel would be unable to move in the lock position but unfortunately it just free wheeled. Is this right or am I missing something.?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

In addition, I have just found what appears to be a metal circlip in the box of the manual hubs. Is this the reason they don't work. If so, where does it go as i have no instructions for it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

On the SJ you dismantle the freewheel unit, and bolt the back piece on the car. The CV splines stick through, and that circlip goes into a groove on the outside of the splines to stop them pushing back in.
On a jimny, you fit a spacer, and the circlip is already fitted on top of the thick washer inside the rim of the hub nut. This means the hubs are so far out that only 1/2 the splines engage, but no-one bothers as there is no problem.
If they are aisin hubs they only turn to lock with the top on correctly.
As to your problem, you need both hubs fitted and locked as well as 4wd engaged to test them.
