Hi Saxj and Martin
Ditto the same question!! I had to collect my Jimny from Black Diamond at Warrington on Saturday morning and fork out £924 !! Despite having asked them to save the old parts, no sign of them. Only a relief receptionist on the desk. And fuel light came on driving home which was totally unexpected, given the petrol I am sure was in it when it had given up the ghost the previous Friday.
Really anxious to see if I can get some money back on this matter. Your help would be very much appreciated.

A chap I know has managed to break four (yes, four) gearboxes under warranty on a 2 year old Land Rover Defender - and was complaining to me about the reliability - and asking why the gearbox in mine has lasted 150k so far without a problem.
I went for a drive with him - and it was obvious why. He was just dropping the clutch so there was a loud clonk sound as the backlash in the transmission was taken up.
He has had lots of 4x4's before, but all automatic and the only Manuals have been cars. He just didn't appreciate that with two gearboxes there inevitably is a large amount of slack in the transmission - he thought it should behave like a car. Since then, he has been much more gentle with the gearchanges and the current box has lasted twice as long as any other so far.
Now, I'm not saying that this is the case for you but it's one of the options - particularly if it has been kept with the right amount of the right type of oil. It should last hundreds of thousands of miles.
Broken teeth are a strong indicator for this.

I don't have any details, I just know that two people on here in the past had gearbox failure and got Suzuki to replace them and for at least one of the people Suzuki suggested that the problem was know about.

Two questions. 2003 Hard Top 34,400 miles. Never been off road to my knowledge and had an easy life.
1. My gear change has been stiff since I bought the car Sept 2011.
When stationary I cann't aways get first unless I slide back towards 2nd, without actually goning into to 2nd gear, and thenit goes into 1st. I'm not sure if it is the extra 'swing/travel' momentum which assists it into gear. Also getting reverse is not easy, as though cogs not lined up. Duff Syncro?
Please, does the Jimny have a clunky stiff box or should it be slickI? I've put it down to being an agricultural 4x4 but now feel for reliability must be sorted. 2 months to big triip to Mongolia.
2. Is gear box removal a two man job or can I do it solo? I've got a pit so will place Jimny on a wheel ramps for groubd clearance but use of a jack or gear box stand would be difficult due to space. So I will need to man handle the box out. Thank you for any advice.
