Wheel Problem was created by Rich156
Hi, I'm new to the site and looking for some advice.
I have a 03 plate Jimny that is used mostly on road, but has a little light off road use on forest tracks etc.

I am no mechanic, so bear with me if my terminology is a bit basic.

On the inside of the front off side wheel is a load of gungy grease and oil. It looks exactly as I have read on here about the symptoms of a worn king pin bearing.
I have taken it to the local mechanic that I use. (Not a Suzuki specialist, but good in every other respect) He has had a look and tells me that there is no play in the wheel that would suggest a worn bearing.
He also says that the 'ball' end of the axle where it fits into the wheel appears corroded and pitted in comparison to the nearside. He believes that this is why the seal around the ball is leaking.

Am I looking at a major axle replacement or could it still be the bearing?

Any advice welcomed.

The problem with your mechanics diagnosis is where does he think the leaking grease is coming from in the first place?

The swivel joints on a jimny are dry, so where is the leaking grease coming from?

The lower kingpin bearing will be worn, creating a wobble in the driveshaft allowing diff oil to enter the joint and leak out

Thanks for that. Everything I have read on this site points towards the king pin bearings, but as I said, I'm no mechanic.

I have a mate who was into 4wd trials and is trying to find a contact with Suzuki experience. As good as my guy is with servicing etc, it sounds as though this is beyond his knowledge.
Cheers
