If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Have a search around goggle etc.
Fairly sure someone has done it, by changing the sump and oil pickup, and the cam shaft, I think the engine speed sensors are different.
I expect the block is near enough the same, so if you have the original engine to rob parts off it should be ok, but there are plenty of rolled jimnys about to get an engine that does fit straight in.
EDIT the engine needs to be the same type eg single cam or twin cam as the electronics are too different.
The gearboxes and therefore engine backplates are different, but they might change over.
