Odd behaviour on tickover and acceleration. was created by Rob Edge
Symptoms:
Occasionally and I mean now and then, when accelerating it feels a bit fuel starved but if you lift off it recovers. At the next junction it will pick up from 750 to 1500 rpm three times then behave normal. I am borrowing a Snap On code reader but anyone got any ideas.
Can't complain because it returned 29.2mpg on average this week.

I actually managed to get above 30mpg the other week, another Jimny first I'm sure

Cleaned all of the visible connections on electrics and took out the pcv valve. Full of gunk so cleaned it with isopropanol and it is now free flowing one way only. Time will tell.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Good choice, isopropanol, IPA or propan-2-ol is used as a fuel additive to pick up any water in the tank, so it shouldn't hurt anything.
It is also used in tape head cleaner and windscreen de-icer sprays.
For the price you might as well buy a new pcv valve though, they do cause idle problems when sticky.

Hi Rob, I had the same problem with the PCV valve, for only £17.00 I would change it out to make sure you have nailed it, a lot of technical threads consider a PCV valve as a consumable item and should be changed out at regular intervals.
see my thread below, there is a good link attached which I found, it explains what a PCV valve does and the symptoms when faulty.

The problem has now gone away but on cold start it tends to rise and fall for about 30 seconds. What controls the cold start tickover and where is it on a single cam. I want to disconnect it to test a theory.
