If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

What has changed since the last time it went into 4wd?
Just the rear diff?
Or have you messed with the transfer box?
Try rocking the car slightly backwards and forwards.

have swapped some vacuum hoses on the osf and we can now engage and disengage 4wd from within the vehicle!!!!!!!! but! - we still have the flashing 4wd light
