shock bolt problem was created by tups93
hey all,

bought some shock re positioners from martin and thought ill fit them today, man i wish i hadnt bothered.

ok my problem, socket set out, 17mm socket on to ratchet then on to bolt, turned to loosen, very small amount of pressure, SNAP, some swear words, so off came about a 1/3 of the bolt, shock is now cable tied up out the way,

before i started

after it broke

the road after some swearing

i need help,

1) i need a new shock mount bolt thingy infact make that 2 bolts incase the other 1 snaps.

2) i need the rest of the bolt out the hole

ok where do i start my search for the bolts and how he hell do i get the rest of the bolt out the hole, its snapped flush.

cheers

There is no way that I can break this to you gently, you now have a pig of a problem. The only consolation is that it didn't break whilst out on the road, I have had both sides fail in different ways, one snapped and the other fell out.

Others may have other suggestions on how to get the existing bolt out but I had to drill mine out. Being a High Tensile steel bolt it does not take kindly to drilling. I had to buy a special Cobalt drill to achieve it and use a very slow drilling speed and squirts of drilling fluid. Once it is drilled out then I replaced it with some studding, this is softer than the high tensile bolts but I think its better as it flexes and bends rather than snapping.

Sorry you found this out whilst fitting my parts, but better than finding it out in the fast lane of the motorway

I have just done a lift and changed my shocks in the process and i must admit i was a little worried when i took the same bolts out as mine is 10 year old and has the original shocks on but i was lucky as mine came out but i did have a thought if it snapped such as yours has then i would prob have drilled right the way through and gone and put a long 17 mil bolt all the way through and just put a couple of washers and a nylock nut on the end.

No don't weld the bracket on!!!!!!

Just grab a nut and looking at that you should get a good bit of
weld on there plus with the heat from the weld it should free up a bit!!

I've done load's like that but i really wouldn't weld the bracket on.
