The reason i asked this is because i DONT think it is makeing the sound it should. Certainly not like my old Grand Vitara, that made a realy noticeable roaring sound when first staryed. I carnt remeber if that was a viscous fan or electric. The Jimny just sounds the same all the time. Thats whats makeing me think it is the fan.

Yes it should! If it is doing this then I would have thought it is operating correctly.

I've not paid much attention to the viscous fan before so I've not been able to answer hut I'm gagging to know if this solves it!

Well......... I tied up the fan as you said. Initialy it didnt sound any different, on tick over. Once i took it out for a spin you could clearly hear the fan spinnig up. Sounds very meaty
, a real roaring sound. Certainly its never sounded like that before. So i think its a good bet the fan has gone. I will take it out for a long trip this evening or tommorow. If it doesnt heat up then we know its the fan at fault. Fingers crossed
Cheers rjd1 for your help and advice
