Yeah I hadn't thought about all the mud flicking to the rear, I'll try and box it in abit to keep the mud off, but water will still be a problem. My front winch is quite low and is always under water. I havnt yet had a problem, but there's always a first.
I'll put one in see how it goes, and try and keep it clean, are the superwinches waterproof? I have not heard they are

Superwinches are - well - Super, but no; they are no more waterproofed than others.

If you're going to fit a winch in the back - save up a bit more and buy a Goldfish (winch). Rear winches for a variety of reasons are more susceptible to water ingress so starting with something water resistant will save you money & grief in the long run.

What about buying a used winch on eBay? There are usually one or two Tds winches - either from Champion or Goodwinch. Though they both claim they are different to one another - they are the same just with different branding.
On my last Vitara, I used a stainless motorcycle exhaust. It was from a bike intended to have two but it was just one half for sale - and went for £1 on eBay.
Although the bike was probably smaller capacity than the Vitara, the pipe bore was the same. I figured that people like noisy bikes so it was probably more open than an equivalent car exhaust. Right enough, no noticeable drop in power and pretty quiet.
At the very least it gives another option for small silencer boxes!
