I would like so very much to be able to do this for a project as they are an easy engine to strip down.
They rev real high, handy if you need to stay in a gear on a climb.

I would like a bit more torque :-)

But talked to a buddy. He told me that a Lexus 1UZ-FE 4.0 V8 only weighs around 180kg for the engine itself. That's not much :-) and around 240 bhp.

arh, all these decisions :-)

But all this stuff also worries me a bit, as I'm thinking. Will the jimny Chassis be capable of handling that much power ?

Think I'd go for a 13b rotary engine out of a Mazda. Half the weight and they like high reving. A few in Oz had this done to them :)

theres one with a v6 ford engine in (EZZ on here), but for added reassurance you could either add a rollcage either external or internal (or a combination of both) or you could trayback it - that would help cope with any flex from the torque

A rollcage will be fitted, no doubt :-)
A traybach build looks very interesting. Will definitely consider that.

Perhaps I'll try write to EZZ, or perhaps he notices this thread.

I sold a mazda rx7 with the 1.3 rotary, completely rotten through last year on ebay, It was barely running and the body was scrap, It was bought by someone in Malta for megga money and they also had to pay for transport/shipping, so they got a complete pile of rust for over 2K.

the M51 engine is not the same as the Td4, m51 is 6 cylinder 136bhp, td4 is only a 4 cylinder, not sure on power figures. both are elctronically controlled fuel pumps so will have a wack of electronics to go with them. i deffinately wouldn't put an M51 in anything, ive got one in my range rover (daily drive) and can't stand it! ( i know a range rover weighs double what a jimny does but compared to the cossy motor it would be shocking) im a big petrol convert now, was planning to use a daihatsu 2.8 motor in my project untill i went and watched a few challenge events and saw / heard how much the big tyres and deep mud bogged down even the higher powered diesels. the m51 in my range lacks any low down torque at all, and they suffer hot start problems caused by worn fuel pumps, and cracking heads. the cossy deffinately gets my vote ;)
