Cb radio instalation. was created by Nobby22
Hi all
Hopefully getting a cb installed soon. I plan to have the aerial mounted on the spare wheel carrier. Is this the best place? Also whats the best way to run the aerial cable to the radio? I was thinkng along the roof lining then down the side pillar. Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
Nobby

I also fitted mine on the spare wheel carrier (soft top, so not so much choice)
I drilled through the rear door and the carrier and fed the cable through and then on through the conduit into the main body nice and neat.

I have mine mounted on the spare wheel carrier as well. The location is good, but as the base of the aerial is lower than the roof of the car you loose some reception distance (i.e. the longer the aerial the better, but if you have a 4 foot aerial, but one foot is below the height of the roof, then this interferes with the signal, and it is like having a 3foot one!) Hope that makes sense! However, it has not been an issue for me!
I ran the cable down the mount, and down under the middle of the back door, along the boot door strut and into the boot, cable tying all the way. I then popped it through the drivers side rear plastic panel, and it popped out at the bottom under the rear seat. At that point I ran out of cable, so joined it to another with the connection accessible if required in the middle of the two rear seats.
Continued to feed the cable along the transmission tunnel under the carpet, taking the gear level gaitor off allows the plastic centre trim to be removed making it nice and easy.
My CB radio is mounted under the dash in the centre exactly as in Halfords link above, mine is a tiny one like that though, and anything bigger would not fit as neatly. Took the power direct from the battery to try and reduce interference, and it is not bad.

Cheers guys, thats just what i wanted to know. I was thinking of getting this one from thunerpole.
www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb_radio_pack-starter.htm
They do two aerials. The orbitor at 1.55m or the mini orbitor at 0.89m. I surpose the longer will be better considering where i want to mount it? I am also going to get a quick release. I think i will go for a yellow one, should compliment the black nicely

Hi all
Got the cb radio now  just wondering , is it best to wire it in straight to the battery. I dont have much experience with electronics so i was thinking of getting the wireing done by a freind. Just need to get a bracket made up for the aerial and then it will be ready for installation
