Martins guide explains it all.
I'm running 235/75/15 special tracs so not much difference to yours, I find off road when it comes to sticky stuff or hills (no power going up) or no engine braking going down, also as the low range gearing is to high you will be slipping the clutch and using more revs to get anywhere, so you will be changing the clutch very often.
I am fitting a low range transfer box soon and it will be well worth every penny spent.

its well worth fitting a lobster box they transform the jimny into a much more capable motor offroad & gives you better gearing on road with big tyres
worth every penny you won't regret it

but wouldn't the 25% reduction offered by JimnyBits be a cheaper solution if you're not doing 100% hardcore offroad?

Now your saying that I did have to drop down gear on the road going up hills, can you buy the rocklobster anywere rather than building one?
Seeing the comments it looks worth doing, I'm not keen on building one tho,
If anyone has one for sale, let me no, I would be very intrested.
Off the topic, have you had anything to do with a kam locker, or the 200quid lockright kits?

Offroad armoury can supply one complete
Rockwatt can build you one but I think you have to supply the 410 and 413 transfer boxes - you can pm him on here
Rob Storr used to do them but i dont know if he is still in business as i can't find his website anymore
They do pop up on ebay so watch there
Kamlockers are supposed to be good - they are electrically operated so can only be swtiched on when you need it
we have a lockright one on nthe back of ours - it is pretty effective but it is perminently working so you get some clunks as it dis-engages for sharper corners but you soon get used to it
there are also ARB air actauted lockers which are very good but expensive by the time you have added a compreessor to operat it
