Stop right now: red SWR is totally bad. You have a short in the coax cable somewhere, either in the cable or in the connectors. The center wire of the coax (thin wire) can break from the connector as it's quite flimsy, leaving you with an open circuit and SWR through the roof. Change/repair the cable.

I understand that it's bad I'm a h g v fitter I fit c b radios every day of the week but some vehicle are harder than others for instance a Volvo lorry is alot harder to get a clean signal and good s w r were as a daff is easy I was purely wondering if any one had ecsperianced very hight s w r because of a bad earth threw the tail gate, iv checked and tested all the coax, it's brand new and tests perfect.

I've had the meter go into the red zone only when the wire soldering inside the connector was broken. Without a proper ground plane, it will just sit above 3-5, but not go over 10 (red). I cannot understand why you have the same situation with the magmount; does anything change if you move the magmount on the hood, on the roof, etc ?

i must admit im in a sligtly built up area but iv never had that throw it over into the red, im going to try to borow a diffrent meter and patch lead because its showing simalar swr on my freinds discovery, im also haveing alternator belt trouble if i go off road i can garantee to break a alternator belt im gessing its were grass and twigs get caught around the pully were the best place to look for sump sheilds ect?
