Unpredictable handling was created by judder
Hi Guys, ever since i fitted an adjustable panhard rod, the handling has been a bit dodgy. More noticably at speed going over rough road surfaces the back end seems to skip and want to drift out. At first I thought I needed new shock absorbers, but the car sailed through an mot. I assumed I had fitted the bar correctly as I used the old one as a reference. The car has not been lifted. So the question is - how do I know for sure it's not the cause ?

Stephen

Hello,

considering that has been the only thing changed it does seem to point to the panhard, i expect you havent quite got the measurments right. i should pick two reference points on the axle and chassis and check they are both the same.

incidently why add an adjustable panhard if you have no lift?

Check the panhard rod bushes for play. I had brand new adjustable panhard rods and bushes however the metal collars in the bushes were too long (manufacture defect apparently) which meant that there was a lot of play and the car was undriveable. I cut about 7mm of each collar, refitted the panhard rods and the car has driven perfectly ever since.

Thanks for the quick replies. I fitted the adjustable one as the standard one on mine had broken on my first off road day. I read through the forums and found it was a common weakness. Also I am considering lifting it in the future.
A quick measurement found it's about 2-3mm difference. Don't know if this would make a great difference ?.
I've let the tyre pressures down a bit as they might have been a bit high/hard - was 31F 30R Now 29F 27R Though it's running Bridgstone 205/70/15 All Terrains
Not sure about the inserts - can remember when ordering them, Kap were aware of a pre existing problem and they were supposed to have sorted that out.

Hi Stephen
welcome to bigjimny
THINK YOU'RE STILL RUNNING AT TOO HIGH A PRESSURE and FRONT tyres should be lower pressure than REARS
205/70/15 duelers should be set at 23psi front / 26 psi rear
my grabber AT2's 205/75/15 are at 24/27 on the road - perfect setting
;)

Thanks for the welcome - I really need to get a pic up on my profile - been lurking around for a while - just never posted. Looks like it's the tyre pressures indeed - took it out there and it's improved - I'll try your suggested 24 at the front and try again, but it's looking good so far. Can't believe it would make such a huge difference.
