New shocks? was created by goatboy
Hopefully in the coming weeks/months I will be buying a set of spring spacers for a little lift to my Jimny.
So I was intending to get front and rear shock repositioners/extenders to go with.
But after having a little look at my Jimny the bushes in the shocks look a little worse for wear and the shocks are still probably the original ones and 10 years and 60k miles old. If they are not knackered they certainly won’t be working at their best.
So I got to thinking about new shocks, ebay standard shocks are about £30 ish, but after seeing the pro comp thread on here I realise they are only £35 each. Shock spacers for the front are £45 for a pair. And new shock bushes are extra on top of that
Therefore it doesn’t really seem worth not putting on the Pro comps does it?
I’m assuming with pro comps I won’t need front shock spacers, but will still need the rear relocators?
Is there any bushes on the top mounting points for shocks?
do they come with new shocks?
If not can someone tell me what I need to buy?
What a rambling post!
Wish I hadn’t gone to Wagtail its costing me a fortune ïÂÂÃ…Â

Hi, you need to think more about what you want to achieve?
Longer shocks, either through long shocks or shock extenders do not result in a lifted vehicle.
Longer springs are needed, either through long springs or spring spacers, then you will need longer shocks because of the longer reach.

Thanks Martin,
The plan is to put 1.5" spring spacers on. Thinking about shocks is a result of wanting to fit spring spacers
Sorry rambling orginal post was a bit confusing!

Hey Goatboy
I'm watching this thread with interest - I've put sping spacers all round on mine, and only the relocators on the rear shocks (handling without the rear relocators is harsh). While fitting the rear extenders I noticed that the shocks are nearly shot and the bushes too (they're not a matching pair of shocks at the rear either). So like you, thinking about replacing the shocks so while I'm at it might aswell get bigger and better replacements.
I have seen somewhere that (I think) there are longer springs fitted to another Suzuki that would be suitable replacements when the shocks are swapped out - or is this a false economy and I should get new shocks and new springs to match??
All this is academic at the moment until the clutch is replaced!!
That Wagtail trip is indeed proving expensive, and thats just the new parts list, not the day itself....

mind you that would also mean getting the castor correctors too + other bits and bobs I've not thought about. :woohoo:
