Thread sealant was created by Smoggy
Hi everyone, ive just changed all my oils - engine, gearbox, trans and both diffs. Cost me a packet in oil!
In the suzuki manual it recommends applying Suzuki thread sealant to the drain and filler plugs when replacing them. Since I didnt have any and needed to get my car back on the road does anyone know if this will present a problem. Also for next time i need to do my oils is there a generic sealant i could use? Maybe martin has some in the big Jimny shop? Thanks in advance guys.

Yes there is one I can supply, I certainly use one myself.

I will get a price by the end of the week.

Martin, is the sealant to help stop oil leaking through or to make it easier to remove the plugs in future. Excuse my ignorance.

Its described as sealant/locker, I use it because the plugs are so low in torque that it stops them undoing by themselves. I guess it helps them seal as there is no copper washer on the internal style plugs. Its not a strong locker in fact it doesn't really set.

It prevents corrosion from outside and stops oil leaks from inside.
I use some loctite thread sealant left over from a job at work years ago. I suppose golden haematite or stag would do the job if you have it.
Put some on next time, it won't explode without it now.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Just had a thought and suppose I could smear some on drain plugs by just backing out threads 90%. Fill plugs obviously not a problem :P
