Clutch Return Spring???

Clutch Return Spring??? was created by SpeeLaT
Replaced the clutch yesterday and noticed that the Workshop Manual says that it has a return spring on the release bearing arm. Not on mine, in fact it has a different arm to that shown in the manual, there is no hole to hook a spring through and the spring mount is missing from the bell housing. (It is the same bearing fork as in Martins Clutch Replacement guide)
So how does the fork move the bearing back away from the pressure plate?
Mine just sits there, if this is how its set up then it would be why the previous clutch was fine but the bearing was totalled This is with the clutch set up with about an inch of free play.
