Have you checked you have not ripped the wire off of the transfer box underneath the car?

Yep, I have this problem on and off for about 8 years. The speedo stops working but the tacho keeps on going. I find that the fuse box under the BONNET is the culprit, with wires coming loose underneath them. A bit of a jiggle and spray with de-watering spray such as 5-56 usually fixes it.
In the meantime, if you have a Jimny with the G13BB engine, such as a Jimny soft-top from 2001 like mine, the tacho can be used in the following fashion.
5th Gear 2,000 revs = 60 kph, 3,000 revs = 80 kph, 4,000 revs = 100 kph
4th Gear 2,800 revs = 60 kph, 3,800 revs = 80 kph
These figures are slightly optimistic but that just means you will not be going quite as fast.

on our first Jimny, we had only had it 2 hours, and had covered less than 10 miles when we lost all speedo and rev counters. after almost 8 weekd of trial and error, suzuki realised the multi connector under the dash wasnt fully snapped together ... and was vibrating loose, but contact was intermittant
