Clutch Squeak/Chirp was created by adamatdraycott
This has been bugging me for a while...
When i lift the clutch it sometimes makes a chirping sound, only the last inch or so on the travel of the clutch pedel... then once the pedal reaches the free play its goes
It drives fine... not as smooth as a normal car but as we all know, Jimny's aren't normal
I have a feeling the clutch is fairly worn... the female owner before me had a steep drive... two things known to not get the best out of a clutch:P
I took the cover off the fork mechanism and found it all to be covered in a very sticky black greasy stuff... i had a bit of a dig and sliced my finger on something sharp in the hole:huh: it took about 30mins of scrubbing to get the black off my hands. What is this stuff? I've seen this mechanism clean and dry before!
Is this the squeak/chirping?

It's the clutch release bearing. I wouldn't worry about it.
Where I work the cars are abused and several have this noise from the clutch release bearing / thrust bearing as some people call it.
It's unlikely you'll have anything fail and if you think you'll need a new clutch in the future, it'll come with a new release bearing anyway.
In the meantime, you'll just get that annoying song in your head everytime it does it!!!

haha
I slackened off the cable a couple of turns last night and it has made a slight difference
I'm not massive bothered by it, its just a bit annoying
I tend to be light on clutches so it could well out last my ownership
