If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

The pinion is the little gear that meshes with the crownwheel.
To find the diff ratio: divide the teeth on the crownwheel by the teeth on the pinion.
However, as far as I understand it, the ARB is the spool part containing whatever is broken. You fit your crownwheel to the spool, and refit.
A new differential is not going to help you I'm afraid, the ARB unit wants to come apart to find what is broken, devon4x4 carry ARB spares and may be able to help.

Its all back together now - turned out to be the free wheeling hub not locking properly 
- it got a good clean out and regreased and with all the wheels in the air on a ramp all the wheels drove in 4h
ready for the Bigjimny event now - trailer's booked, wife's cherokee stolen for the tow car
