I have a 2001 Jimny JLX 4WD and I have an intermittent knocking & clunking noise coming from the NSF hub. the noise goes away when I either I brake and slow right down (with a loud thud) or I shift from 2WD to 4WD.

There is also grease/oil coming out of the knuckle and when in 4WD on full lock there seems to be a lot of resistance and the car wont move.

Some pals say its wheel bearings some say CV joint, I just don't know.

Can anyone help?

Most likely kingpin bearings, wheelbearing could be gone too Take a look at the Information section for "how to" guides

If this is on tarmac: perfectly normal.
On wet ice or slippery mud: something is wrong.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Yeah I've downloaded the how to guides and there great I've also got hold of the work shop manuals and ordered the "special tool" from the big jimny store as the local Suzuki dealer denied any Knowledge of it and once it arrives I plan to take it to bits and have a look.

The resistance in 4WD on full lock was on tarmac.

Many thanks.

I've replaced the King pin bearings and wheel bearing plus the axle oil seal as per the bigjimny guides that were a great help. the bottom king pin just would not come out of the swivel and its bearing was badly corroded however I just put the bearing on the pin in sit-tu and left the pin in the swivel.
As for the grease coming out the swivel, this was down to the axle oil seal not sitting right so all the diff oil had drained out.

I guess I need to fill the diff with oil (Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 80W/90) it says in the manual.
Any recommendations?
