ok that explains a lot ....

The other question than is coming home I tried locking the hubs and then I can change the case very easy between 4h and 2h but when in 4h there is a lot of noise coming from the transmission .... any ideas where to look at and how to check it. most the noise is under neutral acceleration, under power disappears ...

If you were on grippy tarmac in 4wd the noise is the front CV joints breaking apart

You must never never never use 4wd on a dry grippy tarmac surface or something expensive will break as soon as you try to turn. 4wd is for slippery surfaces only.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Only use 4x4 on Snow Ice Sand Mud Dirt rd Shingle Beach Grass and anything in between but Not DryTarmac

I've had the jimny from new (1999) and never needed to do it on the fly, had Rocklobster a couple of years and would'nt want to do it moving anyway, not sure If a sj t-case works the same as a chain driven Jimny t-case, myself I might move it slowly if it binds up the odd occasion

Facade and Andyw

I am aware of that, but thanks anyway for the advice ;)
I don't use 4wd at all on grippy surfaces....

Anyway checked the CV Joints today and they are fine .... add the jimny up in a lift in 4wd with engine running and spinning and could not see anything wrong or strange ... at a dead end for now .. :(

Sorry,

Your post read as if you had driven home in 4wd, we assumed that would be on a road.

What sort of noise?
An SJ transfer is gear driven so it will whirr howl and whine compared to the Jimnys chain.
Banging and knocking sounds are bad though.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
