Slipping out of low range... was created by noggin
Hi,
took my Jimny laning today on the way home to test it and found the low range sometimes disengages (as the previous owner advised me) whilst you're going along... are there any common issues with this or am I looking at a new transfer box?
If so... where would I look for a rocklobster?
Thanks

I have not heard of this being common.
However, looking at the specification of yours shows its got a 1.6 Vitara Engine in it. There are a number of ways to fit these engines varying from using an engineered adaptor plate and replacement engine mounts through to the "big hammer and electric drill" method. The latter method is quite common as its cheap, but it can result in the engine and drivechain not being properly aligned. I would remove the rubber boot from around the transfer box lever inside the car and watch what happens as you drive along. Look for the box moving and hitting the transmission tunnel, knocking it out of gear. This can also happen if a mount is broken. Also check underneath that the propshafts have some movement left on the splines. If its all be jammed in there then the shafts may be completely compressed to the end of the splines not allowing any natural give in the system.

It can happen if you've got a bodylift and not bothered to re-shape the t-case shift, from memory it catches the rear right hand side of the hole in the tunnel, I cut a U shape because I did'nt have heat..........GO and find someone who has lol.
It pops out when flexing or just when you dont need it to do,
Hope you sort it

Here's another solution to the problem caused by a 30mm body lift!

Hmmm.... I'm not sure that's the answer I'm after Johnnie! Today however I have removed the gaiter and found the shell has been cut away to facilitate the lever already but I think it was the gaiter itself causing the problem!
So some modifications to the boot gaiter may be a cheap way out of this problem methinks!
